Henry Stephens was born May 12, 1807 in Cornwall England. In 1832 he came to Canada and then to Mineral Point Wisconsin in 1836 and finally to Shullsburg in 1840. He learned the Carpentry trade in England but upon coming to Shullsburg he always worked in mining. His historic home off So. Judgment Street cost $6000 and was on 14 acres in town. He had business property in Shullsburg and farming lands. He was a member of the Village Board for six years. He married Blanch Leah of Cornwall England in 1832. They had 4 children with 2 living Ellen who became Mrs. Rickert and Mary H. who became Mrs. Hoover (from page 741 History of Lafayette Co. 1881)
